Covid-19 Compliance Policy
Compliance Policy
This policy was written following Government guidelines and in addition to those produced by awarding and trade bodies. This policy has been reviewed on 24th January 2024 and has been updated as required. Any new government restrictions will overrule any policy or guidance from our awarding and trade bodies or Ian Fitzsimmons Training.
Ian Fitzsimmons Training and staff will still follow strict guidelines to reduce as much risk as reasonably possible for the client, students and all staff involved in the training course.

When required all students may have to wear some /all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which will consist of gloves, face mask, face visor and apron which will be issued to them while carrying out all practical assessment and/or training modules.

Ian Fitzsimmons Training will risk assess the clients venue for safe delivery of the training course and potentially eliminate all possible risks identified. This may include:​​​

Areas such as training room size and limiting the number of students accordingly to ensure that all students are always able to adhere to social distancing measures.

Students and staff members will be advised of the social distancing measures taken within the training room and to ensure they always maintain a reasonable distance unless at any time a student will have to go close to another student, instructor or staff member to demonstrate a practical assessment then all concerned may have to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Clear communication will be sent to clients and students that they should not attend the training course should they, or a member of their household, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have had symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days. some of the symptoms may include a new and persistent cough, temperature, fever, and loss of smell and/or taste.

Ian Fitzsimmons Training will run track/test & trace if required during and/or after the training course.

If a student, or a member of their household becomes ill or develops symptoms of covid-19 during the training course and/or within 14 days following attending the training course with Ian Fitzsimmons Training they must contact Ian Fitzsimmons Training /or their respective manager (boss) making them aware of this. Ian Fitzsimmons Training/or the students respective manager (boss) will then notify all other students of the situation and ask them to follow the appropriate sensible procedures.

Ian Fitzsimmons Training will ensure the training room is organised to ensure sensible social distancing is respected by all persons in the training room. All persons must adhere to sensible exit and entry of the room.

​​Ian Fitzsimmons Training will ensure there are adequate resources to run the training course which will include hand washing and toilet facilities while meeting all the relevant regulations and guidelines. Different training courses will require different resources.

​Ian Fitzsimmons Training and the client will provide all the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include face masks, face visors, alcohol hand sanitising lotion, aprons, gloves and much more if required.

Students are NOT to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) due to the possibility of it being contaminated before entering the training room and this will prevent the spread of any virus.

All students and staff attending the training course may have to complete a pre-screening evaluation form and/or have a temperature screening with a non-contact thermometer.

Ian Fitzsimmons Training and/or staff member may refuse any student entry into the training room who has symptoms or a member of their household, have symptoms or have had symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Some of the symptoms may include a new and persistent cough, fever, temperature loss of smell and/or taste. They will be advised to return home and take sensible action to prevent further spread of the virus. This will also apply to all instructors and staff members.

Any student and/or staff member that develops symptoms of COVID-19 during the training course, may be asked to leave the training room and return home. All persons who have been in the training room may also be asked to leave the training room for health and safety reasons.

All students, including the Instructor and staff members, must thoroughly wash their hands before entry and/or exit with soap and water for 20 seconds and/or use alcohol hand sanitising lotion.

All students will be advised to sneeze and cough into a tissue and immediately dispose of them in the appropriate place and wash their hands immediately and/or use alcohol hand sanitising lotion. If a tissue is not immediately available. students will be encouraged to cough and/or into a bent elbow and away from another person if possible.

Reasonable adjustment will be taken into consideration while located in the training room, especially while carry out practical assessments. some of which may include:

Recovery position - When a student demonstrates how to put another student into the recovery position at least once during the training course then personal protection equipment may be worn (PPE).
Choking - All students will demonstrate the choking procedure by using a manikin which will be cleaned before and after use.
Secondary Assessment/Survey - When a student demonstrates the secondary assessment on another student then personel protection equipment may be worn (PPE).
Slings, Bandaging and Dressings - When a student demonstrates applying a sling, bandage or Dressing on another student then personal protection equipment may be worn (PPE).
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - The resuscitation council still require the teaching of rescue breaths. If it is not possible for students to have individual resuscitation manikins then they will be shared between small groups and face shields must be used. Students will not be allowed to give rescue breaths on a manikin without using a face shield. Resuscitation manikins used during the training course will be cleaned before, during and after use with alcohol spray and/or wipes. Also deep cleaned after every training course and each lung replaced. ​​​All manikins are fitted with a one way valve system which helps prevent possible cross contamination during training.

All literature and stationery used by the student will not be shared with other students and must be cleaned before, during and after use if required.​

Ian Fitzsimmons Training wilensure that all equipment is thoroughly cleaned and/or replaced between use along with at the end of each training day.
